Transport decarbonisation trailblazer Team Global Express and charging provider JET Charge will talk depot electrification at TruckShowX – Australia’s biggest trucking decarbonisation event to date.

The presentation will be one of seven real-life case studies that explore the projects, people, and technology being implemented to decarbonise freight in Australia.

“This is why TruckShowX will be so impactful – it will explore the entire ecosystem of moving parts required for low- and zero-emissions vehicles to become a reality,” says Adam Ritzinger, Chief Technical Officer at HVIA and TruckShowX Program Manager.

In the day-one presentation TGE’s Director of Environment, Sustainability and Governance Heather Bone will share the key learnings to date from the company’s ambitious plan to transform its express parcel depot at Bungarribee in Western Sydney into a showcase of emissions-free transport.

At a cost of more than $44.3 million, the project will see nearly one-third of the depot’s fleet transition to electric trucks. The trucks – 36 Volvo FLs and 24 Fuso eCanters – will operate under a back-to-base model travelling from the distribution centre to customers in residential and urban areas and returning to the depot for charging. Bone, who has more than 25 years’ experience in transport and logistics, renewable energy, alternative fuels and environmental sustainability in Australia and internationally, says TruckShowX is an important forum to bring industry together to support each other on the decarbonisation journey.

“I am really looking forward to TruckShowX and the fact that it will be bringing together all of the key players in decarbonising transport and logistics,” she says.

“We can’t decarbonise alone – as an industry we need to be working together and supporting each other in this journey and I think TruckShowX is focusing on a terrific topic for its first event.”

Bone will be joined by Alex Bowler of JET Charge, a market leading EV charging infrastructure and technology company in Australia and New Zealand and delivery partner to TGE for the Bungarribee initiative.

Bowler, who as Sector Lead for Bus and Heavy Vehicles at JET Charge leads some of the country’s largest and most complex bus and truck fleet electrification projects, says events like TruckShowX offer an amazing opportunity for industry to learn from each other and accelerate the decarbonisation of the logistics industry in Australia.

“It is an intensely exciting time to be working in the fleet electrification space and JET Charge has had the privilege of working on some of the largest projects in the country,” he says.

“TGE’s ‘Depot of the Future’ is one of the most exciting fleet transition projects in Australia and we’re really proud to have played our part in its delivery. This project will set a benchmark for how we as an industry approach the next generation of on-depot charging solutions.”

“Heather and Alex join an incredible line-up of speakers for TruckShowX that will be announced over the coming weeks in the lead-up to the event,” Ritzinger adds.

“Tickets are selling fast, however, so we encourage everyone to get in early to avoid missing out.”

TruckShowX Program Manager Adam Ritzinger says the two-day event will explore the entire ecosystem of moving parts required for low- and zero-emissions vehicles to become a reality

A spin-off of the hugely successful Brisbane Truck Show, TruckShowX is set to be the biggest trucking industry decarbonisation event held to date in Australia.

To be held May 13-14, 2024 at RACV Cape Schanck Resort in Victoria, it will explore low and zero-emissions vehicles (LZEV) and technology, and unpack the interconnected ‘ecosystem’ of equipment, infrastructure, services, regulations, policies, and people that must exist for them to work as a solution.

The two-day event will feature keynote presentations from global leaders in LZEV adoption, supported by practical case studies of local operators leading the decarbonisation effort.

Complementing this will be an expo showcasing the latest low- and zero-emissions vehicles and related technologies and, uniquely, a drive-day opportunity to get behind the wheel of the latest LZEVs.
